On January 15th it was time for the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards and, as always, the red carpet styles are always as much up for debate as the nominations. This year we saw a lot of nudes and peachy hues, but also a splash of color with still very much on-trend reds and jewelry shades.
1. Neutral nude, but not boring
Leighton Meester adapts the long-sleeve trend in this dress from Burberry, and does it well! KING loves the combination of the long, puffy sleeves and the high slit of the skirt. We also like that she chose to keep the hair simple and let the dress speak for itself.
Michelle Williams looks very girly in this Valentino dress with a daisy flower print. Even though she looks cute we're not crazy about the flowers and think she would look even better in a stronger color. A plus for the shoulder-straps though!
Anne Hathaway does classic Hollywood glamour in a Giorgio Armani Privé gown. KING loves the simple, clean design of the dress combined with the bold shoulders.
What can we say?! Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka proves that one doesn't have to be in their 20s to look stunning.
2. Whites
Like many stars, Nicole Kidman opted for the minimalistic trend. However this Prada dress makes her look like she's about to enter a beauty pageant...
Jennifer Lopez looks like the diva she is in this Zuhair Murad gown. KING would have thrown away the weird cape though!
3. From peach to pink
We don't like to criticize what Natalie Portman wears, but this dress from Viktor & Rolf really doesn't suit her. There are so many great dresses that fit the belly bump, but this one seems too pale for her and the draping in the back makes it look like an ill-fitting toga...
Claire Danes look absolutely gorgeous in this clean dress from minimalistic king Calvin Klein. We love the shade as well as the high neckline and the plunging back.
This superstrong pink gown from Lanvin looks fantastic on Julianne Moore, who once and for all proves that redheads can wear hot pink. Even though the trend of just one long sleeve can be hard to pull off, KING thinks that her simple hair-do as well as her pale skin really make this look a hit.
4. A splash of color
WOW - if we had the body of January Jones we would also like to show it in this bright red dress from Versace!
Angelina Jolie looks absolutely amazing in this Swarowski studded pale emerald colored dress from Versace. KING really likes the long sleeves and the fitted waist.
Yellow is one of the biggest trends this spring, and Kyra Sedgwick really makes it work in this mustard colored Pucci dress. She also shows that a simple ponytail can be the best hairstyle for a glamorous gala!
5. Black
Olivia Wilde goes all-in in this superglamorous Marchesa gown. Her simple hairstyle completes the look.
Although KING might not get Helena Bonham Carters Vivianne Westwood dress and the different colored shoes, we love that she never failes to make an impression. Somehow she makes this quirky, all-over-the-place dress work, even though it might only work for her.
What do YOU think of the dresses?! Which one did you like the best, and which one was NOT flattering?!
