February 17th, 2011
With equal parts of bittersweet excitement and anticipation, the final day of New York Fashion Week fall/winter 2011 arrived. Fashion Week passes by so quickly! BUT, one of the best shows was saved for last... Finland's own household designer
Ivana Helsinki, this season closing New York Fashion Week with a fantastic collection named
Velvet Lake.

The amazing hair was done by Edward Tricomi of
Warren-Tricomi Salon. The hair was pinned into a very statuesque and tall updo with a slight sixties feeling to it, channeling the modern Birgitte Bardot.

The cat-eyed make-up was created by talented make-up artist
Brian C. Hawkins, blending very well together with the style of the hair.

The interest in the show was very high - understandable since you when attending an Ivana Helsinki runway show always can expect something extra!
The show opened up with a short film, almost like a lookbook in motion, with beautiful girls in beautiful Ivana Helsinki Velvet Lake dresses walking around in a dark, dreamy fairytale winterland.
The Velvet Lake collection for fall/winter 2011 has a gorgeous peacock print in the center, consisting of many dreamy, floaty, feminine but still a bit dark dresses mostly made of velvet and silk. As the designer herself describes the collection:
"Velvet Lake portrays the most haunting winter landscape yet, comprised of sensual handmade Finnish knits, feminine printed silk&velvet dresses featuring peacock feather and 'jack frost' embroideries, crushed velvet coats and 'fluffed' knit dresses." |
| Amazing peacock pattern |
KING fell absolutely in love with the prints! Velvet Lake feels like a very wearable collection, gorgeous dresses with a twist, that you really can take from day to night - and which girl doesn't appreciate that aspect?!
